Research in Critical Care

Do you have a research idea related to critical care nursing?
If so, why not enter the 2018 BACCN Researchers’ Dragons' Den? You could win £500 towards your project costs and the support of the BACCN and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to deliver your project.

Closing Date: 1st of June 2018

How to enter:

Submit a 500 word proposal with regards to your Research project. The following points provide guidance to support your application. The proposal must:

1. Be anonymised, written in English, double spaced and within the 500 word limit (excluding title & references)     
2. Be concise and coherent
3. Have a clearly stated aim and rationale
4. Justify the proposed design and method
5. Outline the implications for critical care nursing practice  
6. Describe a feasible time frame for the project
7. Include a breakdown of how the £500 would be spent
8. Include 1-3 references cited using the Harvard referencing system

Rules and Regulations

I.   The lead applicant must be a current BACCN member

II.   Applications must be received by 1st June 2018 and the lead applicant of the three shortlisted projects will be notified by 22nd June 2018

III.   Shortlisted projects must be presented by the lead applicant during the 33rd Annual BACCN Conference in September 2018

IV.   All presenters must register as conference delegates (Early Bird Delegates Rates Apply)

V.   All submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges, consisting of critical care researchers, senior practitioners and service users

VI.   Each presenter will be allowed 10 minutes to present their proposal, with a further 10 minutes for questions and feedback from the panel

VII.   The winning project will be announced during the closing session of conference

VIII.   Following the September 2018 conference, the £500 prize money will be allocated in exchange for receipts or invoices for research costs as they occur based on the budget outline

IX.   The lead applicant of the winning project will be expected to produce six monthly update reports and to report their progress at the BACCN 2019 Conference and in the news section of the BACCN “Nursing in Critical Care” journal

X.   Adoption of the study onto the NIHR Comprehensive Research Network (CRN) portfolio will depend on the project fulfilling the criteria outlined at:
