- British Association of Critical Care Nurses: Evidence-based consensus paper for oral care within adult critical care units September 2020 The aim of this paper is to provide an evidence-based British Association of Critical Care Nurses (BACCN) consensus paper for best practice relating to implementing oral care with the intention of promoting patient comfort and reducing Hospital Acquired Pneumonia (HAP) & Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) in the critically ill patient. The paper aims to provide direction for critical care practitioners on how to perform comprehensive oral care which can be used as part of a VAP/HAP reduction strategy in conjunction with the ventilator care bundle approach.
- Detection, Prevention and Treatment of Delirium in Critically Ill Patients (2006) This document outlines the importance of recognising delirium as an acquired brain disorder and giving it the same high profile as any other organ dysfunction. It gives useful advice on the assessment and treatment of delirium.
- National Practitioner Programme (DOH) This discussion document outlines the progress that has been made with regard to the Advanced Critical Care Practitioner Role and seeks comments on the proposed National Education and Competence Framework. Although the period for responding to this is now closed the document none the less provides very useful information for anyone interested in these roles.

- DOH Outreach Indicators Describes the role of critical care outreach services in supporting patient care and provides indicators of effectiveness for outreach service. Supports the forthcoming clinical guidelines from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence on the care of the acutely ill patient in hospital.
